Nigel was born in 1947 and grew up in Frome, Somerset. As a boy chorister in the Anglican Church he was confirmed at St John the Baptist Church. He left school at sixteen and trained as a printer in letterpress printing and bookbinding. At twenty one he felt called to work as a lay missionary printer in Nigeria managing a Diocesan printing press for a Roman Catholic Order during the Biafran Civil War. On return to the UK in 1970 he converted to Roman Catholicism and entered a religious community as an Augustinian friar studying for the priesthood. He subsequently left the religious life and trained as a teacher in Theology and Music teaching up to A level. After teaching for a few years he left and trained as a Jungian Psychotherapist and Supervisor and was in private practice for thirty-five years. He “retired” from practice eight years ago but still maintains an interest in working with people in a listening capacity “enabling people to discover who they are and how to live authentically and fully”.

Alongside his work as a therapist he has maintained an interest in painting and music. He did the two-year training course in Spiritual direction/accompaniment with the Worcester Diocese and now accompanies people on their faith journeys as an “anam cara” (soul friend) and mentor. He moved to Devon two years ago with his partner and as part of the Exeter Diocese spirituality network continues to offer spiritual accompaniment and supervision. He has led quiet days and study groups on prayer, the contemplative life and spirituality, and continues to enjoy painting, reading, gardening, music and “all the gifts that each day can bring us”.
